781,860. Hydraulic turbines. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. July 8, 1955 [Aug. 4, 1954], No. 22664/54. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXXIV] A bearing unit 5 located between a rotor shaft 2 and a housing 1 of an hydraulic turbine used in well-drilling comprises concentric sleeves 9, 10 between which are located a bearing 11, sealing means, flow-reducing means and pressure balancing means. The sealing means comprise a bellows 17 and sealing ring 18 at the upper end and a rubber sealing member 19 at the lower end. Adjustable threaded ring- members 20, 21 constitute the flow-reducing means. The pressure balance means comprises a bellows 12 communicating through passages 13, 14 with cavities 15 and 16 at the upper and lower ends of the bearing unit and is more fully described in Specification 781,859. The sleeves 9, 10 are located between shoulders 6, 7 and threaded rings 3, 4. In modifications shown on each side of Fig. 2, a flow-reducing passage 27 is formed between a sleeve 25 secured to the rotor shaft 2 and an annular member 26 secured to the casing 1. Bearing units 30 or 30<SP>1</SP> are connected to the stator 1 by bolting or screwing. Each bearing unit comprises a throttle passage 40, bearings 34 and 35, a liquid-filled pressure ring 36, a throttle passage 39 and pressure balancing means consisting of a flat corrugated membrane 37 in accordance with the above Specification. A drill bit 31 is screwed on the lower end of the rotor shaft.
