Abstract

781,544. Wind musical instruments. ANDERSON, T. M., and GOOD, B. E. Nov. 10, 1955 [April 18, 1955], No. 32140/55. Class 88(2). The rotatable hollow rods 4 which carry the keys .5 and pads 7, are biased towards their normal positions, not by the usual needle springs but by torque springs 8, 37 mounted inside the rods 4. One end of each spring rests in a groove in a plug 12 or 35 fixed in the rod 4 and the other end is embedded in a stud 25 or 45 which is held, by means of a screw 29, in any required position in the head 3<SP>1</SP> of one of the supporting pillars 1, 1<SP>1</SP>. The rod 4 may rotate either on ball-bearings 16, 23, Fig. 1, held in place with the aid of a compression spring 17, or on studs 41, 45 secured in the heads 3, 3<SP>1</SP> of the pillars. Modified constructions for the mounting of a plurality of keys and pads are illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
