Abstract
781,527. Heat treating liquids. ALPURA AKT.-GES. Aug. 11, 1955 [Aug. 11, 1954], No. 23220/55. Class 49. In apparatus for the heat treatment of liquids, e.g. for sterilizing liquid foods, beverages or pharmaceutical products, the wall of a conduit through which the liquid flows is provided with an aperture for introduction of a gaseous heating medium into the fluid, and the parts of the conduit wall downstream of the aperture are cooled. With the device of Fig. 1, the liquid flows in the direction 2 to 3 through a rectangular conduit formed with a venturishaped restriction. Steam from a jacket 9 is introduced into the liquid through apertures 20 disposed in the region of the maximum flow velocity of the liquid, and cooling water or oil introduced into a cooling jacket 16 flows round the outside of the conduit where the walls thereof are thin. With an alternative device (Figs. 3 and 4), steam from a jacket 34 is introduced through channels 33 into the liquid in a pipe 31 and a cooling medium flows from a jacket 36 into a series of axially arranged channels 38 closed on their outer sides by closures 39 welded to the piping 31; heat insulation 40 is provided on the outside of the pipe and round the channels 33.
