Abstract

781,190. Gripper shuttle looms. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Oct. 4. 1954, [Oct. 17, 1953], No. 28476/54. Class 142(2) With each of a plurality of weft threads. relatively utilized by weft. changing and weft inserting elements, there is associated a tensioning device and a take-up device and, common to all the devices of each kind, there is an operating cam or the like which is connected by a control element to that one of the devices which is associated with the selected weft thereat. In Fig. 2, as a control chain 68 rocks an element 79, to bring the selected one of weft thread feeders 81, 82 into line with the transfer position, an interlinked sleeve 24, keyed to the main shaft 6, is slid along that shaft by a roller 95 which rides in a groove 27 in the sleeve, to position cams 25, 26 under rockers controlling the appro priate ones of thread tensioning brakes 42, 49 and weft take-up 57, 62. In a four weft arrangement of Figs. 6-8, as the control chain rocks the feeder changing element 141, through a link 143, a quadrant 138 slides a toothed sleeve 136 along a key on a shaft 123, to mesh a quadrant 122 with the appropriate one of tension brakeoperating quadrant 119a-d. The quadrant 122 carries with it an interlinked quadrant 124, slidably keyed on a shaft 125, to mesh it with the appropriate one of thread take-up operating quadrants 121a-d. The shafts 123, 125 are rocked by cam grooves 133, 134 on the main shaft 6. The control chain may, alternatively, be coupled through a shaft 74 and arm 162 (both dotted, Fig. 7) to a sleeve 160 connected to the quadrant 122, the sleeve 136 and quadrant 138 constituting a linkage with the feeder-changing element 141. The tension breaker of Fig. 2 comprises each a lever such as 39, urged downwardly by a spring 46 to press a shoe 42 carried by the lever against a flexible steel band 45 tensioned by a spring 43. In Fig. 8, each brake shoe is carried on a lever 113 influenced by a spring 147 and the appropriate quadrant 119d. In Fig. 9, the brake shoe 153 is beneath the co-acting flexible band and is urged upwardly by a helical spring 155. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 762,050.
