[Class 74 (ii)] A fabric take-up for a flap-warp knitting- machine, in which there is separate automatic mechanism for correcting overdriving of the take-up roller 31 by the fabric, and for regulating the speed of the winding-on roller, is driven by an endless-chain, cable, or the like 29 passed over a pair of sprocket wheels or drums 8, 11, the sprocket 11 being actuated by a ratchet wheel 12 to maintain a substantially constant length of chain or the like between the wheels. The ratchet wheel 12 is racked by a pawl 21, actuated by a cam 28 through rocking levers 24, 23, and 19, 18. When the rate of rotation of roller 31 exceeds that determined by the cam 28, a roller 17 under which the chain passes is lifted, so rocking downwards the other end 13 of a centrally pivoted lever on which it is mounted, thus bringing a shield 15 from under the pawl 21, to allow it to rack the ratchet wheel 12 more teeth at each stroke. When, due to the increase of the diameter of the roll on the shaft 3, the fabric is wound on at a rate greater than that at which it is supplied, it depresses a pivoted arm 34 which carries a roller 36, against the action of a spring 40. An extension 37 rocks a centrally pivoted arm 45, 46, to bring a shield 47 beneath a pawl 49 (which is mounted with pawl 21, on shaft 20) and so lessens its effective stroke on a ratchet wheel 42, which, through a sleeve 51 freely mounted on shaft 10, and pinions 43, 44, drives the shaft 3. The take-up tension can be initially adjusted by weighting the roller 30 suspended on the chain 29. The spring 40 may be adjusted by a screw 34, and sleeve 39. The roller 31 is covered with felt or the like.
