Abstract

781,111. Feeding sheets &c. BRITISH TABULATING MACHINE CO., Ltd. Jan. 12, 1956 [March 29, 1955], No. 9137/55. Class 100(1) In apparatus wherein record cards (not shown) are separated one by one from the bottom of a pile in a magazine 1-4 by means such as a friction roller 5, the cards passing from the magazine through a throat formed between the base 1 and end plate 4, a weighted presser-plate 10 which rests on the top of the pile is provided with an extension plate 12 which extends between the two end plates 3 beyond the pile and is provided with two adjusting- screws 13. When the pile of cards is nearly depleted, the ends of the screws 13 contact the base 1 and the weighted plate 10 bears more heavily on the front of the pile to ensure that the remaining cards pass through the throat of the magazine. The front of the plate 10 may have a projection 11. The cards are separated frictionally by a roller 5 secured to a shaft 6 driven through a one-revolution clutch, and the line of contact of the roller with the bottom card is behind the centre of the magazine. Holes in the periphery of the roller 5 hold grommets 7 of plasticized polyvinyl chloride which provide friction pads. Specification 695,083 [Group XIX] is referred to.
