Abstract

781,103. Collapsible containers. INTERNATIONAL PATENTS TRUST, Ltd. Feb. 3, 1956 [Feb. 11, 1955], No. 4178/55. Class 66. A container made from pliable material such as polythene or polyvinyl chloride, is in the form of a thin walled bottle having a curvilinear cross-section formed with axially extending corrugations 2, the whole being so arranged that the base 1 can be pushed up into the container to decrease the internal volume for dispensing purposes. The base 1 may be thicker than the wall part or it may be reinforced by an external circular disc of cardboard or like material. Alternatively the container could be made with the base 1 initially depressed into the container to provide a recess as at 8 in which the reinforcing disc would be gripped. According to the Provisional Specification the container has an outlet tube of deformable material, such as polythene, pre-shaped to form a non-return valve resisting inflow of air. The outlet tube, which may be integral with or attached to the container mouth, may be formed along its length with two spaced flattened portions separated by a tube length which forms a pocket for any viscous material extruded from the container. The flattened portions close under external air pressure to trap a portion of the material in the pocket and prevent ingress of air. Alternatively the outlet tube may be formed with an oval section having two spaced pairs of indentations therein, the indentations of each pair being slightly off-set in relation to one another and formed from opposite sides of the tube to provide a zig-zag barrier. In yet another embodiment, the outlet tube may have a flattened portion provided internally with axially extending grooves and spaced from the container mouth by a length of tube which forms a pocket. The various outlet tubes described may have tear-off seals at their outer end.
