Class 100(2) [Also in Group XXII] A forming or shaping mechanism for strip material such as aluminium includes a plurality of pairs of freely rotatable forming rolls between which strip material to be treated is arranged to pass at least one roll of each pair being spring- loaded, each pair of rolls comprising a male roll and a female roll which is of the same axial length as that of the male roll, wherein one pair of forming rolls 11, 12 is adapted to form the side edges of the strip and a second pair of forming rolls 13, 14 is adapted to form that portion of the strip which is intermediate said side edges. The rolls 12, 14 are movable to or from the rolls 11. 13 by links 21 operated by a lever 20. Pre-form rolls 22, 23 are positioned before and after the forming rolls. All the rolls are driven by their engagement with the advancing strip.
