Abstract
780,150. Control of A.C. motors. TOYO DENKI SEIZO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Nov. 17, 1955 [Nov. 30, 1954], No. 32968/55. Class 38 (3). [Also in Group XXXV] A polyphase commutator motor driving a winch is adapted to operate with series or shunt characteristics and is provided with field windings 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, compensating winding 2, and rotor winding 7 supplied through transformer 3, 4. On the first hoisting notch of the motor controller, switches 8, 11, 14 are closed so that the compensating winding 2 is connected in parallel with a portion of the transformer primary winding 3 and the motor operates at a low speed with a shunt characteristic, Fig. 2 (not shown). When switch 12 is closed instead of switch 11 the speed of the motor increases. The control of the motor speed may be effected through tappings in the secondary winding of the transformer instead of the primary. Closure of switches 8, 14, 15 short-circuits the rotor winding through the transformer and the motor runs as an induction motor. When only the switches 8, 15 are closed, the stator windings and the transformer primary winding are connected in series, and the motor operates with a series characteristic. If the connection from the source to the winding 1 is transferred from tap 8 to tap 10, the hoisting speed is further increased. During the lowering operation the motor acts as a regenerative brake, the contacts 8, 10 being opened and contact 9 closed to energize winding 11 instead of the winding 1. On the fourth lowering notch, switches 9, 13, 14 are closed so that the phase of the transformer primary winding is reversed and the motor operates in excess of synchronous speed. In a modification, an auxiliary stator winding 5 is provided in transformer relation with the compensating winding 2, and the voltage of this auxiliary winding is applied to the brushes for the motor to operate with a shunt characteristic. The transformer 3, 4 is only used for operation as a series motor. Reactors 6, 7 are included selectively in series with the winding 2 for speed regulation, and resistor 20 is placed in the rotor circuit for this purpose.
