Abstract

780,006. Refrigerators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 4, 1954 [Jan. 5, 1953], No. 155/54. Class 29. To maintain the humidity level in the storage compartment 4 of a refrigerator, a water receptacle 12 within the compartment is provided with heating means for evaporating water therefrom. Defrost water from the evaporator 8 is led from drip tray 35 by guides 36, 37 into the receptacle and the excess overflows a lip 33 into a drain 34. The receptacle is supported at one end by a hook 17 from a grid tray 18 and at the other end by the plug and socket connection 15, 16 of an electric heater 14 immersed in the water. This heater is energized at low cabinet temperature or humidity, or whenever the compressor motor is stopped or whenever the temperature in the butter compartment 21 is low. In modifications the receptacle is heated by heat conducted from the outer shell of the refrigerator through a heat conducting strip or by heat leakage through the bottom of the refrigerator from the machinery compartment in which case the receptacle rests on the base of the compartment 4.
