Abstract

779,952. Electric correspondence control systems. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd. Jan. 5, 1956 [Jan. 5, 1955], No. 289/55. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group I] Part of the settling-tank equipment beneath the floor of a paint spray booth (see Group I) includes a weir chamber 21 from which floating matter and some liquid passes over the edge of a weir 27 in the form of a pipe 28 and communicating by a flexible pipe 29 with a filter (not shown), the height of the weir 27 being adjusted to correspond with the depth of the liquid by a follow-up switch comprising electrodes 43, 44 of different lengths. The weir pipe 28 is provided with a strap 35 connected to a hollow rod 36 which also carries a bracket 41 from which the electrodes 43, 44 depend into a " still " chamber 42 communicating by means not shown with the weir chamber 21. The tip of electrode 43 is at the minimum desired height of liquid above the end of pipe 28 and the tip of electrode 44 at the maximum desired height. If the level of liquid in the chambers rises sufficiently to immerse the tip of electrode 44 as well as that of 43, current is supplied to an electric motor 40 by control mechanism 45 so as to lift the pipe 28 by screw-and-nut gearing 38, 39 until electrode 44 is once more clear of the liquid, whereupon the motor stops. If the liqud level falls below the lower electrode 43, the motor lowers the pipe until that electrode again touches the liquid, whereupon the motor again stops.
