Abstract
779,922. Riveting. JACKSON, Ltd., A. N. and JACKSON, A. N. April 11, 1956 [April 12, 1955], No. 10386/55. Class 83 (4). A riveting machine comprises a head B formed with a bore to house a riveting ram b and carrying the toggle lever mechanism, the head being provided with a face b<SP>1</SP> parallel to the ram and positioned adjacent the bore, and a gap frame A, one arm of which is provided at its end with a face adapted to seat the face bl provided on the head and formed with a groove to house a tongue b<SP>2</SP> thereon. A cylinder C houses a piston for operating the toggle lever c. Studs b<SP>3</SP>, b<SP>4</SP> and b<SP>5</SP> hold the head to the frame the top studs b<SP>3</SP> taking any live-load shocks due to the action of the pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder and the bottom four studs counteracting the bending moment at the joint. The shear stress at the joints is taken by the tongue and groove connection. Portable machines are suspended at their centre of gravity by rods a3.
