Abstract

779,550. Container lids. GATES, G. Dec. 10, 1954 [Sept. 11, 1953], No. 25142/53. Classes 18 and 66. [Also in Group XIV] A removable lid for a food container, such as a biscuit tin T, has a spring actuated, roller type shutter 32 of transparent material. The remainder of the lid is of metal, lined with a resilient material, for example cork, at the surfaces engaging the tin T. The shutter 32 slides in channels made by suitably bending the metal sides 15 and 16 and is held in its closed position by a spring biased catch releasable by a knob 46. The shutter has a handle 35 formed from one of two metal plates embracing the free end of the shutter, the plates sliding in the aforesaid channels.
