778,814. Dispensing measured quantities of powdered material. GASKELL & CHAMBERS, Ltd., [trading as NON-DRIP MEASURE CO.]. Nov. 28, 1955 [Dec. 14, 1954], No. 36206/54. Class 106 (5). Apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of powdered material comprises a manually operable rotor 4 supported within a housing 1 having an inlet port 17 communicating with a supply hopper (not shown) and a discharge port 16, the rotor having one or more pockets 5a, 5b each closed at its inner end by a gauze screen 13 having a mesh size such that it will support a charge of powdered material but will permit free passage of air. During the charging of the upper pocket, air is displaced downwardly through the gauze screens 13 and ensures emptying of the lower pocket. The rotor is secured by a spring loaded latch 12 and provided with a hand lever 10. Its movement may be limited to 180 degrees by a flange 14 co-operating with a fixed stop (not shown) or a spring-loaded ball may be provided to permit rotation in 180 degrees steps. The screens 13 may have a friction tight fit within the pockets or they may be soldered. Alternatively, to enable the capacity of the pockets to be varied, the screens may be secured by removable spring clips. To assist the flow of material, which may be cocoa, powdered milk or chocolate, the walls of the hopper are inwardly tapered from either side of a central point. Specification 683,842 is referred to.
