777,399. Coffee percolators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 22, 1955 [April 23, 1954], No. 11714/55. Class 129 [Also in Group XI] In an electrically heated coffee percolator comprising preheat, pump and keep warm heating units 11, 10 and 13, 14, a signal or indicating device 30, two pairs of thermostatically operated contacts 16, 17 and 18, 19 and input terminals 15, the circuit is arranged as shown in Fig. 2 so that the signal or indicator 30 is only operated when both sets of contacts 16, 17 and 18, 19 are opened. Contacts 16, 17 are carried on spring strips 22, 23 and are biased towards one another by spring 24, an adjustable stop 25 being provided engaging strip 23. A thermostat member 26 has a projection 27 which engages strip 22 at a predetermined temperature to separate contacts 16, 17. Contacts 18, 19 are similarly arranged and operated by thermostat member 28 at a predetermined temperature. Elements 26 and 28 may be replaced by a single element. When making coffee, the water is placed in the container and ground coffee is placed in the coffee basket, terminals 15 are connected with the supply and contacts 16, 17 and 18, 19 are suitably adjusted. Initially the current flows through units 10, 11 in parallel and contacts 16, 17 and 18, 19, units 13, 14 and lamp 30 are shunted out. When contacts 18, 19 are opened, unit 13 will still be shunted by contacts 16, 17. When contacts 16, 17 are opened, sufficient current flows through lamp 30 to light it and meanwhile the brew will be kept at the drinking temperature by elements 13, 14 which are of a much higher resistance than elements 10 and 11. A cold brew may be reheated by adjusting contacts 16, 17 to be open or to open at a low temperature and setting contacts 18, 19 to open at the drinking temperature. A circuit will then be closed through unit 11 and contacts 18. 19 until the drinking temperature is reached when contacts 18, 19 will open and lamp 30 will light up. U.S.A.
