Abstract

[Class 129] Water is applied to tea leaves, coffee grounds, or the like, by the action of gravity when a predetermined temperature is reached. In the form shown in Fig. 1, when the water 10 in the kettle 1 reaches a predetermined temperature, the bimetallic strips 8 and 9 attached to the container 5 for the tea or coffee, will reach the position shown in dotted lines, slipping off the ends of the set screws 6, 7 and allowing the container 5 to fall into the heated water. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the water is heated by the electric element 36 in the lower half of a container 21 pivoted on gymbols 25. The upper half of the container has a weight 22 which tends to swing it over. The container is held in unstable equilibrium with the weight uppermost by a bimetallic thermostat 31, 27, the rod 27 engaging the frame 29. When the water reaches a predetermined temperature, the strip 31 bends, withdrawing the rod 27 from the hole in the frame. The weight 22 then causes the container to swing over, allowing the heated water to trickle through the container 26 in which are placed the tea leaves or coffee grounds.
