Abstract
777,245. Self levelling devices. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Ltd. Feb. 5, 1954 [Feb. 20, 1953], No. 4820/53. Class 113. In a motor stabilized platform, the motor load is confined to frictional forces. The inertial load on the motor, due to acceleration of the motor itself and the gearing is largely absorbed by an auxiliary flywheel geared to the motor. As shown, the shaft 10 is stabilized by electric motor 11, against movements of frame 14. The torque required to move the gears and shafts 12a, 12b, 12 and the rotor of 11 is developed, during acceleration of 14, by the flywheel 13b. In a further embodiment, not shown, a gimbal ring is stabilized by a motor, and the inertia of the ring and gearing is balanced by a flywheel geared to the gimbal.
