Abstract

776,754. Copy-turning. MONO PUMPS, Ltd. Aug. 11, 1955 [Aug. 11, 1954], No. 23353/54. Class 83 (3). A method of turning helical pump-rotors comprises rotating a workpiece about its own axis at n revolutions whilst this axis is rotated about an offset axis at n Π1 revolutions, and feeding a tool along the work in such a way that n revolutions are performed for a tool advance equal to the helical pitch, the tool being urged towards the work and carrying a follower which is moved along the template as the tool is traversed. The work 5 is rotated between centres 6, 7, which are eccentrically supported from bearings 8, 9. The centres 6, 7 are driven by mechanism 12 for rotation about offset axis 13. A source of power 27 drives the support and work at the appropriate speeds through a variable-speed drive 28. The tool 14 is supported on a cross-slide 15 carried by a saddle 16 which incorporates copying-mechanism so that a feeler 19 controls a valve regulating the supply of fluid to an hydraulic device for feeding the tool 14. The template 20 produces fillets 24, 25 at the ends of the rotor. Specification 400,508, [Group XXVI], and 776,753 are referred to.
