Abstract

A composition comprises polystyrene, unvulcanized natural or synthetic rubber and an alkyl benzene having an alkyl group of at least nine carbon atoms. Rubbers specified are pale crepe, spray dried rubber latex, reclaim rubber and "cold" GR-S. The alkyl benzene may be dodecyl benzene or a polyalkyl compound such as polydodecyl benzene and may be obtained by condensing benzene or toluene with a chlorinated kerosine. Optional additives are organic or inorganic pigments and lubricants such as zinc stearate. Mixing is preferably carried out using a master batch containing a higher proportion of rubber. A granular moulding composition may be obtained by pelleting. The products may be used in refrigerators, children's toys and household articles.
