Class 20(2) A pit prop is provided with a head plate 1 shaped to support corrugated roof caps or girders 5, characterized in that the surface of the head plate is provided, in two vertical cross-sectional planes directed perpendicular with one another; with symmetrically distributed tooth like projections 2 which are arranged at equal distances from one another, the projections and the grooves 3 therebetween having approximately identical cross-sectional areas. In the described embodiment the head plate 1 is square in plan and the projections are formed by two grooves 3 in each of the two directions of the vertical planes. The head plate may be of round or oval shape.
