Abstract
775,951. Ship for receiving, separating and transporting mixtures of oil and water. VELD, C. IN 'T, and VELD, J. IN 'T. Aug. 6, 1955, No. 22692/55. Class 113. A ship for receiving, separating and transporting mixtures of water and oil or other immiscible liquids, comprising a plurality of settling and separating tanks 3, 4, 5 forming the hold of the ship, parts of the sides of the tanks being upwardly divergent (see Fig. 3) has means for the introduction of the liquid mixture (indicated by cross hatching) into the initial tank 3, and controlled means to admit of the discharge of the separated water (indicated by horizontal dotted lines). The ship has buoyancy tanks 1, 2 formed in the ends and sides respectively of the hull. The tops of the tanks 3, 4, 5 are covered by a deck 16 provided with hatches 17 for access to the tanks, the perimeter of the deck being bounded by vertical walls 18. Impurified water may be discharged by a second vessel on to the deck 16 from whence it flows via hatch 17 into the tank 3 and then through valve controlled openings 9 and 12 into tanks 4 and 5, the separated water being discharged by means of a siphon 14 with an adjustable valve 15. The liquid mixture may be introduced into the tank 3 by means of a pump 7 having a discharge conduit 8. The pump is shown connected via a hose 27 to a device 20 for collecting and transferring to the tanks 3-5 oil patches from a water surface. The device is floated to the oil spot to be removed and comprises a cruciform shaped gutter adjustable relative to a floating frame.
