Abstract

[Also in Group V] A clamping device for securing apparatus and mechanically-operated tools to moulds, workpieces and other structures comprises a platform to which the tool or apparatus can be fixedly attached, an operating spindle 8-longitudinally adjustable by means of a screw-thread and attached to the platform near one end thereof, means 10 to rotate the spindle and a swivel joint 11 at the end of the spindle, a chain or equivalent flexible member attached to the swivel joint, a pair of clamping angles 16 slidably mounted on the flexible member and a tongue or hook 14 near the end of the platform remote from that carrying the operating spindle to which the flexible member may be detachably anchored. The platform comprises a pair of channel members 1 disposed in parallel relationship with their channels facing outwardly, and a top plate 2 secured to the top flanges of the channel members. As shown, a vibrator 3 for consolidating concrete is mounted on the top plate 2 and the structure to which the platform is secured is a moulding trough 18. The spindle 8 is attached to the platform by means of a bridge member 5 which is attached to the channel members 1 by means of flanges 6 fitting underneath the top flanges of the channel members so that the bridge member is longitudinally slidable. Extending upwardly from the bridge member is a sleeve-like socket 7 which is internally threaded to receive the spindle 8. At the other end of the platform is a second bridge member 13 which is also longitudinally slidable and which carries the tongue or hook 14. Limit stops 15 are fixed to the channel members to limit the sliding movement of the two bridge members. The clamping angles 16 are of L- section and are each secured to the flexible member which, as shown, is a chain 12, by means of a piece of tube 17. In use the length of the chain is initially adjusted by engaging an appropriate link of the chain with the tongue or hook 14 and then the chain is tightened by rotating the spindle 8 by the means 10 which, as shown, is a detachable handle.
