Abstract

Isomeric mixtures of trifluoromethyldiphenyl are obtained by the reaction between a free-radical forming organic peroxide and a trifluoromethyl compound of the formula <FORM:0775581/IV(b)/1> by a free radical reaction. In an example benzoyl peroxide reacts with benzotrifluoride to give a mixture of 2-, 3-, and 4-, trifluoromethyldiphenyl. Other free - radical - forming organic peroxides which may be used include t.-butyl peroxide and other alkyl peroxides of up to 4 carbon atoms and alkyl substituted benzoyl peroxides, the former giving, as products, mixtures of trifluoromethyl alkyl aryl compounds.
