Abstract
775,569. Waveguide accessories. METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. March 31, 1955 [March 19, 1954], No. 8140/54. Class 40 (8). A dielectric gas seal for a waveguide comprises a block of, e.g., polythene or polytetrafluoroethylene having a concavity on the side exposed to gas pressure and a corresponding convexity on the other side, the block being of constant thickness in the longitudinal direction of the guide. This thickness is indicated by the length l on Figs. 4 and 5 which show two sections through the block at right angles. The gas pressure presses the edges 4 of the block against the sides of the guide. In order to make the edges more flexible they may be recessed as shown in Fig. 8. The block may be held in position by screws or dowels having rounded heads which engage the sides of the block. The block may have curved, instead of planar, surfaces.
