Abstract
775,340. Centrifugal strainer separators. WESTERN STATES MACHINE CO. Aug. 5, 1955 [Aug. 5, 1954], No. 22663/55. Class 46. In a centrifugal strainer separator in which separated solids are removed from the walls of the rotating basket by a scraper or shoe arranged for vertical movement along the wall and pivoted about an axis spaced from the axis of the basket for movement towards and away from it ; an extension on the shoe engages the basket spindle assembly at a point remote from the pivot of the shoe to urge the basket wall away from the shoe in opposition to the force created at the assembly by the scraping operation. A square pillar 17, formed on one face with a rack adapted to be engaged by a pinion rotated by a hand wheel 36, carries a scraper shoe 38 and is itself mounted in a housing 14 pivoted on a vertical pin 15, the housing shaft and shoe being rotated by an arm 23 about the pin 15. A notch in a bracket 25 on the support 16 for the housing 14 retains the toe 22 of the shoe in a first operative position to remove a first scraping from the basket wall but may be moved further clock-wise until a stop 31 on a part of the housing 14 engages a face 32 of the bracket 25, bringing the toe to its nearest permissible position to the basket wall. The shoe 38 together with a guide' member 39 secured to it encircles the spindle 11 of the baskets and an arcuate face 41 on the guide member 39 and concentric with the pivot 15 of the housing 14 engages a sleeve 37 surrounding the spindle. The ends of the shoe 38 and guide member 39 remote from the toe 22 are secured together by a bolt 46 about which turns a stop body 45 adapted to engage the sleeve 37 with its front arcuate face and thereby transmit to it the force created by the scraping operation and tending to close the toe 22 on to the wall of the basket ; the wall thus tends to recede from the toe.
