Abstract

775,212. Yielding bearing supports. HARDY SPICER, Ltd., (Spicer Manufacturing Division). Jan. 13, 1955, No. 1044/55. Class 12 (1). A bearing 14 for the propeller shaft 11 of a motor vehicle is mounted in a soft flexible rubber block 35 secured to the vehicle frame 10 by bolts 38, whereby the shaft passes through its critical period at a comparatively low speed. Adjacent its outer periphery, the block 35 is reinforced by flexible wires 41 embedded in the rubber. In a modification, the reinforcing means consists of a rigid metallic band of U-shaped cross-section on the outer periphery of the block 35. A dust shield assembly consists of fixed parts 28, 29, 31 which co-operate with deflectors 30, 32 mounted on the shaft.
