A towelling dispenser has a secondary towel available when the main towel is used up, the pulling out of the secondary towel for use winding up the end of the main towel on its take-up roll. The dispensing of both towels is controlled by a timing device. The main towel 20 passes from its unsoiled roll 20a over the usual drive and pinch rolls 30, 32, outside the dispenser and to the take-up roll 28 which is drive by a roll 34 chain connected to the roll 30. The secondary towel likewise passes over drive and pinch rolls 56, 59, but is formed into a loop which is held by a spring clip 60b, before it passes flush against the outside of the dispenser, to its take-up roll 24b driven by a roll 58. The shafts 34a and 58a, of the rolls 34 and 58 are connected by a chain 62 running over a sprocket 63 fast on the shaft 58a and a sprocket 64 having a one way rachet connection 66, Fig. 4, with the shaft 34a. When the main towel is being withdrawn, the rachet slips and the secondary towel mechanism is not effected. When the main towel is used up, its free end, pulled out of the dispenser, depends below it. The secondary towel - 24 is then pulled so that the portion held by the clip 60b is freed to give the necessary loop outside the dispenser. As the towel 24 is withdrawn the roll 58 drives the roll 34 through the chain 62 and rachet 66 and the free end of the main towel is wound up. The withdrawal of both towels is controlled by known timing mechanism operated by a member 30c on the shaft 30b of the roller 30. The mechanism comprises the usual suction cups 48b, 48a, the latter connected to a stop 46b which, when the cups are engaged, prevents rotation of the roller 30 by being in the path part 30e of the member 30c. The towels 20 and 24 are replaceable through hinged doors 12 and 14 respectively.
