774,937. Powder metallurgy; continuouscasting. BRENNAN, J. B. Feb. 16, 1955 No. 4636/55. Classes 83 (1) and 83 (4). Elongated metal - articles, e.g. strips or rods, are manufactured by compacting metal particles into a tube, moving them along the tube whilst sintering them, and expelling the sintered product at the other end of the tube. After sintering, the metal may be rendered molten, and frozen whilst still in the tube, thus giving a solid cast body. The powder from a hopper 1 is pushed by a reciprocating piston 5 along the tube 6, sintered by induction-heaters 9, 15, and cooled by a cooling-chamber 11. The zone 12 may consist of molten metal. Inert-gas may be supplied at 14, 14a, and if the process is to be carried out under a vacuum, the air may be evacuated at 20, through a filter 16. A feedscrew may be substituted for the piston 5. Sealing-means 17 may be provided at the outlet.
