Abstract
774,689. Deunatomes. CONCENTRIC MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and BURKE, H. March 21, 1955 [Feb. 16, 1954], No. 4469/54. Class 81(2) A deunatome comprises a frame having a handle and supporting an oscillatable knife, a base-plate to bear upon the skin and a pressure member pivotally attached to the frame and angularly adjustable relative to the knife-edge by a single micrometrical screw device. The knife 20 having a cutting edge 22 is supported on a carriage 4 and is reciprocated transversely, relative to the frame, on bars 5 by means of a crank-pin 12. The crank-pin 12 is arranged eccentrically of a shaft 9 which is in the handle 7 and is connected with an electric motor by a flexible shaft (not shown). A ribbed base-plate 3 which bears upon the skin when the deunatome is in use is secured to the frame. A pressure member 23 is provided with rearwardly directed arms 24 by which it is pivoted to the frame. A screw 27 engages in a boss 28 arranged centrally of the pressure member 23 and passes through a cross-bar 26 against which its head 29 bears. Rotation of the head 29, which carries a micrometer scale used in conjunction with an index on the cross-bar 26, adjusts the position of the pressure member 23 relative to the cutting edge 22 to determine the thickness of the skin to be. cut. After adjustment of the pressure member 23, the screw 27 is held in position by a spring-pressed plunger 31 secured to the cross-bar 26 bearing against a serrated wheel 32 fixed to the screw 27. Guide plates 33 are provided at each side of the frame to determine the width of the skin to be cut. These guide plates may be adjustable to increase or decrease the distance between them. In an alternative construction, the device is powered by an air motor housed in the handle.
