Abstract

774,576. Electroluminescence. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 6, 1953 [Nov. 7, 1952], No. 28121/52. Class 39(1). Illumination for an instrument dial is provided by a band of electroluminescent material, its light falling on the luminescent dial or indicia and colour filter means, provided e.g., on the cover plate, absorbs any dispersed electroluminescent light but transmits the light from the luminescent material. The pointer 3 and indicia 4 are coated with luminescent material. The electroluminescent cell comprises a transparent conductive coating 8 e.g. aluminium or ion chloride, on electroluminescent layers 9 and a metal coating 10 with spring contact 11 and it is mounted on the upper surface of the cover glass 7 and held there by the flanged cover 5. The filter 12 on the cover glass is of a colour designed to absorb diffused or dispersed light originating from layer 9 and transmit light from the pointer and indicia. Specification 731,677 is referred to.
