Abstract

774,559. Sorting solid materials. SALMON, J. Jan. 4, 1956 [Jan. 4, 1955], No. 228/55. Class 117. Root crops such as sugar beet are cleaned by being placed in a hopper 1 across the open bottom of which an inclined part 5 of an endless band moves in the direction of the arrow. The band consists of transverse bars hooked together at their ends 8 which agitate the crops and remove the earth adhering thereto which falls through the conveyer. The slope of the part 5 is sufficiently great to prevent the removal of the crops, but spaced lifting means 9a, 9b are releasably secured to the band and periodically remove crops from the hopper and deliver them to the top of the band wherethey drop into a receptacle. Each lifting means consists of a transverse bar 10 projecting from the band. Only the part 5 of the band, which may be in the form of a corrugated sheet. need be inclined.
