Abstract

774,390. Television. SOC. NOUVELLE DE L'OUTILLAGE R.B.V. ET DE LA RADIOINDUSTRIE. Feb. 23, 1954 [Feb. 26, 1953], No. 5303/54. Class 40 (3). In a circuit arrangement for " clipping " the signal from a television camera during retrace periods (to provide a stable level for the insertion of synchronizing pulses) the. camera signal is fed to a cathode-follower stage, the cathode output of which is supplied to a biased limiting device (which " clips " the signal) and the control grid of which is clamped to a predetermined potential (which may be adjustable) during retrace periods. As shown in Fig. 4, the control grid of the cathode follower stage V3, which is supplied with the video signal A (Fig. 1), after amplification and phase inversion in V5, together with negatively-going blanking pulses B, is clamped to a potential determined by the setting of potentiometer P<SP>1</SP> by means of the diodes V6, V7 which are rendered conductive during the occurrence of the " back-porch" by means of clamping pulses F. The output of V3, developed across the cathode resistor R2, is then " clipped " at a level D by means of diode V4, the limiting action of which is determined by a low impedance voltage source 13. In this manner a constant clipping level D is maintained irrespective of operation of the (blacklevel) control potentiometers P1 and of supply voltage variations.
