Abstract

773,020. Opening cut and leaf tobacco. KORBER, K. July 26, 1955 [Sept. 14, 1954], No. 21560/55. Class 130 To effect mixing and opening of a stack 1 comprising superposed layers of differing grades of tobacco on a variable speed belt conveyer 2, vertical layers are picked from the end face of the stack by rows of prongs 3 of a rake 4 actuated by a crank or like drive 5a, 5c. The prongs 3 pass between, bars of a grid 7 which strips the picked tobacco from the prongs to fall on .a conveyer 11. The conveyer 2 and devices 4, 7 are confined by side walls, in :slots of which a hinge pin 8 of the grid 7 is adjustably mounted, the lower end of the grid being held by. a spring 9 against an adjustable stop 10. The rake 4 is driven by elliptical gears 6a so that it moves rapidly during picking than during stripping. The gears 6a drive the shaft of an upper pair of crank discs 5a connected by chain drives to a lower pair of crank discs 5c which may be replaced by bearings in which the rake 4 pivots. The discs 5a and those 5c or the bearings replacing them are mounted to allow adjustment of their distance from the conveyer 2. The discs 5a, 5c are of adjustable crank throw.
