Abstract

Condensation products are made from N : Ndi-epoxypropyl-amines and bi- or poly-functional alcohols, carboxylic acids or anhydrides, phenols, isocyanates, amines and aldehydes. An example is given of the reaction between N : N-di-epoxypropyl-methylamine and ethylene diamine, such a product being useful as an exchanger resin, laminated material or for electrical purposes. Cold-hardening lacquers can be obtained by using phthalic anhydride. The di-epoxypropyl derivatives of propylamine, butylamine and amine may also be used, and in general of any aliphatic or aromatic primary amine.ALSO:N : N-Diepoxypropyl compounds are made by reacting a primary aromatic or aliphatic amine with epichlorhydrin to form the N : N-di-(3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl) compound and treating the latter with aqueous sodium or potassium hydroxide. The reactions are preferably carried out at or slightly above room temperature and an inert solvent may or may not be present, e.g. methanol, ethanol, benzene or toluene. Examples are given of the process using n-propylamine, n-butylamine, aniline and methylamine.
