Abstract

772,233. Organs. LAMBERT, S. E. March 9, 1955 [Dec. 11, 1953], No. 34498/53. Class 88 (2). Apparatus for selecting the combination of stops to be brought into operation by a combination piston comprises a plurality of switches, each switch being associated with a particular stop and each including an electrically conducting member 12 adapted to be moved between two fixed contacts 29 and 30 and to be retained in engagement with one or the other contact by a releasable latch 18, one contact 29 being connected to means for moving the associated stop to its operative position and the other contact 30 being connected to means for moving the stop to its inoperative position, and means controlled by the stop for shifting the associated conducting member 12, subject to release by the latch 18, from one contact to the other. The switches are arranged in rows and columns, each row being associated with a particular combination piston and each column with a particular stop. All the switches of a row have a common latch 18 and bus-bar 37. Each movable conducting member 12 consists of a flexible and resilient metal strip and each column of switches has two contact posts such as 27, one carrying the contacts 29 and the other carrying the contacts 30. The means for moving the conducting members 12 and the latches 18 may be either electro-pneumatic. Fig. 1, or electromagnetic, Fig. 13. With reference to Fig. 13, in order to set a particular combination of stops 61 to be operated by a combination piston 88, the required stops are first pulled out, energizing corresponding solenoids 45 to raise lifting rods 42 against the conducting strips 12. A setter piston 87 is then depressed, operating a change-over switch 77, followed by the combination piston 88 which completes a circuit for a solenoid 39. The latch 18 is thereby moved to its inoperative position so that the associated conducting strips 12 are free to move according to the positions of the lifting rods 42. Thus those strips 12 which correspond to stops in the " out " position are raised and are subsequently forced against their upper contacts 29 by the latch 18 when the combination piston 88 is released. Those strips 12 which correspond to stops in the " in " position are held against their lower contacts 30. The setter piston 87 is then released so that switch 77 returns to its original position as shown. Subsequent depression of the combination piston 88 causes a solenoid 57 to raise the associated strips 12 into contact with their bus-bar 37, energizing coils 65 of the selected stops and coils 66 of the others. The selected stops 61 are thereby held, or moved into, the " out " position, while the unwanted stops are held, or moved into, the " in " position. A similar process may be carried out in respect of each combination piston on the organ, independently of the other combination pistons. Specification 772,234 is referred to.
