Abstract

772,131. Methods of ventilation. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 20, 1955 [Oct. 21, 1954], No. 30047/55. Class 137 [Also in Group XIII] In an air-conditioning apparatus having a first blower 10 for directing room air through the evaporator 16 of a refrigerating system, and a second blower 11 for directing ambient air through the condenser 17 of the system, the condensate formed on the evaporator is collected in a sump 23 from where it is sprayed into the airstream issuing from the second blower 11 by tubular members 26, 27 attached to the second blower. The condensate is led into the sump 23 by a trough 21, beneath the evaporator, and a pipe 22. The tubular members 26, 27 depend from the blower 11 and have an inlet opening 32 facing in the direction of rotation of the blower. The sump water is urged outwardly along the tube and up the vertical section 33 by centrifugal force. On emerging at 34, the curved member 35 causes the stream to be substantially atomized. The length of the section 33 is such that the descending droplets have to fall through most of the airstream thus increasing the efficiency of their dispersal.
