Abstract
771,646. X-ray apparatus. JENSEN, K. V. Aug. 22, 1955 [Aug. 25, 1954], No. 24128/55. Classes 98(1) and 98(2). X-ray films enclosed in a substantially light-tight envelope of material pervious to the developing liquid are mechanically pressed immediately after immersion in the developer. As shown in Fig. 1, the film 1 has an outer sheath 3 pervious to developing liquid but substantially opaque to actinic light, and an inner sheath 2 is inserted between the film 1 and the outer sheath 3. Preferably the sheaths consist of open-ended bags, and the film 1 is fixed at 4 to the closed end of sheath 3. The sheath 3 may have light sealing lips at its open end. After exposure, the inner sheath 2 is withdrawn. The film, still in the outer sheath 3, is placed in the developer, and is immediately passed several times between rollers which press against it to remove air bubbles. After development the film is transferred to a stop bath, after which the outer sheath 3 may be removed. The film may then be inspected, if required, before fixing. If desired, intensifying foils may be inserted between the sheaths; sheath 2 is then withdrawn, and the film in sheath 3 is placed in a cassette for exposure. Alternatively, metal foils may be carried by the sides of sheath 2.
