Abstract
771,186. Comminuting garbage. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Nov. 17, 1955 [Nov. 26, 1954]; No. 32994/55. Class 59 In a food waste disposer comprising a comminution chamber 8 and a drainage chamber 24 and in which a rotatable impeller 33 at the base of the comminution chamber cooperates with a shredding ring 21, the impeller is provided with frustoconical drainage apertures 39 disposed at the lowest points of staggered arcuate radial grooves 38 formed in the upper surface of the impeller. The impeller has two or more blades 35 'and a pair of diametrically-opposite fins 37 which operate as pumping elements. A side wall of the chamber 8 is formed with a knock-out 19 which is broken when it is desired to discharge the effluent from a dishwasher into the chamber 8. The upper end of the chamber 8 is provided with a removable rubber splash guard 16 which has flexible fingers 17 extending radially from a central opening 18.
