[Also in Group XXXIV] In an anchoring device adapted for use with trucks and the like, a U-shaped upper bracket member 13 is adapted to be secured by an attaching plate 23 to a lower part of a truck body, and a floor engaging member 15 is pivoted by horizontal pivot member 14, to the upper bracket member 13 to swing in a vertical plane such that the floor engaging member has a vertical floor engaging position and a substantially horizontal inoperative elevated position. The floor engaging member 15 includes a main portion in the form of an elongated casing 17, and it also includes a slidable foot member 16 located externally of the casing 17 and has a stem portion 18 extending into the casing from the lower end of the latter. The floor-engaging member 15 has in association therewith a braking lever 19 having a fulcrum 45 between its ends ; the fulcrum 45 being floatingly arranged to slide within casing 17, each end of the lever being accessible for manipulation by the foot of the operator. End rod 21 mounted on one end of this lever may be engaged by the foot of the operator to the locking position shown in Fig. 3 wherein the forward end of the locking lever 19 is engaged by inclined edge portion 50 of a detent member 20 secured to upper portion of casing 17 and the latter is prevented from further movement by stop 27. Foot releasing pads 22, secured to locking lever 19, may be engaged by the operator's foot to effect release of the truck such that the springs 42 and 43 are effective in raising the slidable foot member 16 from the ground engaging position shown in Fig. 3 and helically coiled wire spring 30 is effective to pivot the floor engaging member 15 about its pivot 14 to the substantially horizontal position illustrated in Fig. 5.
