Abstract

A metal article to be fixed to rubber or rubber-like material, or a metal mould in which such material is to be moulded, is coated with amorphous zinc phosphate and a film of an adhesive or of lubricant (e.g. soap solution), respectively, is applied to the coated surface. In an example, a steel mould was first degreased then immersed in a heated 4 per cent solution of amorphous zinc phosphate, the analysis of which is given, and a soap solution was then applied. In another example, an automobile accelerator pedal was coated with rubber by first coating its surface with amorphous zinc phosphate and then with adhesive before applying the rubber coating.
