Abstract

770,615. Centrifugal strainer-separators. WESTERN STATES MACHINE CO. June 29, 1955 [July 6, 1954], No. 18855/55. Class 46. In a centrifuge in which a rotatable basket for separating liquids from solids, a sprayer for delivering washing fluid on to the contents of the basket and a discharge mechanism are normally operated in sequence by an automatic timer, a fall in the pressure of the washing fluid below a predetermined value actuates an electric switch in a circuit of the timer to prevent the discharge mechanism from operating. Washing water supplied through a pipe system 20 is sprayed on to the contents of a basket strainer 13 by nozzles 18 on a pipe 17. The pipe system 20 includes a connection 27 leading to a pressure operated switch PSW in the discharge timer circuit, opening of the switch on a fall of pressure isolating the discharge timer from its power supply. A branch pipe 24 from the pipe 17 sprays a scraper 15, such as that described in Specification 688,707 [Group II] to remove material adhering thereto after its scraping action. The whole washing operation is timed by a solenoid, valve WWSY which controls the supply of compressed air which actuates a valve 21 in the pipe system 20 as described in Specification 688,712 [Group II].
