Abstract
770,362. Refrigerating. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Feb. 15, 1955, No. 4459/55. Class 29 In a refrigerator having an evaporator supplied with refrigerant by a motor compressor unit 16 the current to which is controlled by a switch 22 actuated in response to the temperature of the evaporator 15, heat is supplied to the evaporator for defrosting after a cumulative period of time during which the door is open at the same time as the compressor motor is energized, defrosting only taking place while the compressor motor is running. As shown a defrosting electric heater 8 heats refrigerant entering the evaporator as described in Specification 620,951 and the supply of current to the heater is controlled by a switch 28 constructed as described in Specification 678,075. Switch 28 is closed at the expiry of the predetermined period of time by a timer 43 the driving motor of which is in series with both a switch 51 closed only when the door is open and the switch 22 controlling the compressor motor. Switch 28 is opened after defrosting by a bellows 48 actuated by a thermal bulb 50 responsive to the temperature of the suction pipe 20. The circuit is such that switch 28 cannot be moved to the closed position while the compressor motor is starting, save in exceptional circumstances, thus avoiding overloading of the supply current: Specification 568,337 also is referred to.
