Abstract
769,849. Preventing deposition of pitch in paper making. KOPPARFORS AKTIEBOLAG. June 10, 1955 [March 9, 1955], No. 16720/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 96. Pitch naturally occurring in mechanical wood pulp or semi-pulp is caused to adhere to the fibres so as to avoid clogging wire-cloths &c. of the paper-making machine &c., by adding to the pulp a cationic, or weakly cationic (non-ionic) surface active agent in a quantity, e.g. up to 0.2 per cent on the dry pulp weight, sufficient to effect fixation, but insufficient to loosen and emulsify the pitch. As surface agents may be used salts of alkyl amines, e.g. acetates, sulphates or chlorides of long-chained hydrocarbons with three- or five-valent N- atoms such as primary, secondary, or tertiary alkyl amines, alkyl-ammonium or -pyridine bases, or (non-ionic) alkyl amines treated with ethylene oxide. Examples mention stearyl amino acetate &c. The agent may be added at various stages, e.g. in a wet machine of the pulp mill.
