Abstract

769,196. Dispensing liquids. MILLS BROS. (SHEFFIELD), Ltd. Sept. 9, 1954 [Sept. 25, 1953], No. 26410/53. Class 116. In a beverage dispensing system comprising an electrically operated pump g and a hand operated pump d arranged to deliver through a common delivery pipe n and discharge nozzle b<1>, a normally closed valve in disposed in the delivery pipe is operable, for the delivery of the beverage, by valve operating means interconnected with means for operating a switch t for the electric motor of the electrically operated pump whereby immediate cutoff of the beverage is ensured when the electric pump is switched off. The valve operating means comprises a bell crank p rocked by a foot plate s which is depressed to open the valve and close the switch t and released to close the valve and open the switch t. The hand pump, which is used only when the electric system fails, may be operated by a lever b<2> and rod c after plate s has been depressed to open valve m. The piston of the hand pump is normally arranged so that beverage may pass through the hand pump when the electric motor is in use, but a bypass e<1> with a one way valve may be used to by-pass the hand pump if desired. A similar conduit e<2> may by-pass the electric pump. In a second construction (not shown) a single electric pump delivers via three hand pumps to three delivery pipes and nozzles, each delivery pipe having associated with it a valve m, switch t and valve operating mechanism p, s.
