[Also in Group XI] On operation of an automatic cigarette lighting and delivery device a cigarette is fed from a storage compartment 24 to a position in which one end of the cigarette is adjacent an electric heating element 46 and the other end is adjacent a suction device 45 and the arrangement is such that the heating element 46 is thereupon connected to an electric source, the suction device 45 is operative and a timing element 37 is set into operation to control means for delivering the lighted cigarette to a collecting station 33. The cigarettes 25 are delivered one at a time to a recess 35 in a roller 34 when the roller 34 is rotated in an anticlockwise direction bv knobs 36 against a spring 48 one end of which is secured to a fixed wall 29 and the other end to a knob 36. On release of the knobs 36 the roller 34 is rotated by the spring 48 to a position shown in Fig. 7 in which a step 49 abuts the end of a bi-metallic strip of the timing element 37 to hold the roller 34 in the operative position. In the operative position a bush 42 forms an electrical connection through contacts 40, 41 to the heating element 46 and to a heating element 39 surrounding the bi-metallic strip of the timing element 37 and the tube 45 of the suction device is connected through a slot 44 formed on the axle 43 carrying the roller 34, to a conduit 32 leading to a suction source. The cigarette is then lit and after a predetermined period the heating element 39 releases the bi-metallic strip of the timing element from the step 49 thus allowing the roller 34 to be rotated by the spring 48 and to drop the lighted cigarette into a tray 33. A removable cover plate 27 hinged to the sides of the housing 24 and provided with a finger grip 26 enables cigarettes to be inserted in the housing 24.
