Abstract

768,531. Roller conveyers. SPODIG, H. April 25, 1955 [April 24, 1954; April 26, 1954], No. 11908/55. Class 78 (1). [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXV] A magnetic element for driving magnetic material, e.g. a tube 8, along a roller conveyer 7 comprises a spherical cap 1 which is rotatable about a central axis and is tiltable about an axis substantially normal to the axis of rotation and passing through its centre of curvature. The cap is connected to the shaft 2 of a motor 6 which is pivotally mounted in stands 3, 4 and is swung by a handle 5 from one position to the other when the direction of conveyance is to be changed. The cap consists of a base of ferromagnetic material provided with permanent magnets 11 inserted in bores 9 with like poles facing in the same direction and insulated from the base by non-magnetic sleeves 10. All the magnets may be of the same length and have pole shoes placed on them which extend upwards to the surface of the cap. In a modification adjacent magnets may have unlike poles disposed in the driving surface. In another modification, Figs. 4 and 5, bar magnets 17, or block magnets 18, are mounted in sectorshaped chambers 16 formed in the lower part of the cap and the cap has sector-shaped pole shoes 19 which are magnetically insulated from its base and have magnetic ribs between them. The permanent magnets may be replaced by a built-in system of electromagnets.
