Classes 99(1) and 99(2) An end fitting for a helically or annularly corrugated, flexible, metal hose b having an external, braided metal reinforcement 10 comprises a tubular body 1 having connection means, such as a spigot 2 and rotatable nut 3 thereon, for attachment to another fitting, and on the rear face thereof an annular groove 5 for the reception of the end of the hose to be silver brazed therein, and an external fetrule 13 located about the rear part of the body for mechanically trapping and securing the reinforcement 10 to the body. As shown in Fig. 1, the hose is secured in the groove by a silver brazing alloy having a melting point in the range of 600‹C. to 680‹C., and the inner wall of the groove is extended into the hose to prevent excess brazing material from flowing into the body 1. The ferrule 13 is located over the reinforcement and against a shoulder 12 on the body, and swaged down in two' operations, one to grip the reinforcement on to the knurled or otherwise roughened outer surface 9 of the body, and the other to swage the bead 15 of the ferrule inwardly together with the end of the reinforcement into a groove 11 in the body; the groove 11 has an inclined face 18, and the ferrule 13 is provided with a flared lip 14 which projects beyond the body and presses the reinforcement into contact with the hose 6 to ensure support for the latter. In modifications, (a) the end corrugations of the hose are axially compressed at 26. Fig. 3, and the body 1 has an outer skirt portion 20, the ferrule 22 being locked to the body by an annular, outwardly directed flange 23 having an inclined face 24, and the body being provided with circumferential grooves 21, and (b) the ferrule 39, Fig. 5, is in screw-threaded engagement with a collar 40 in abutment with the body 1, the collar and the ferrule having inclined surfaces 37, 47 between which the reinforcement is gripped. A tool, Fig. 4, for compressing the end corrugations of the hose comprises a split, internally threaded collar 30 placed about the end of the hose and secured in position in the base of a hollow nut 28 by a tubular plug 32 in which a punch 33 is slidably. mounted, the punch having a portion 35 of reduced diameter closely fitting in the bore of the hose.
