Abstract

An acaricidal preparation comprises a compound of formula <FORM:0767807/VI/1> where R is an unsubstituted benzyl radical or a benzyl radical bearing one or more halogen atoms or nitro groups in the benzene nucleus and where the nucleus X is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more halogen atoms, together with a dispersing or suspending agent. The preparation may contain a water miscible organic solvent such as acetone, and may be in the form of an aqueous dispersion or suspension or suspended in an aqueous emulsion of a non-volatile oil (liquid paraffin). Alternatively the active ingredient may be mixed with an emulsifying agent and an organic solvent such as xylene, such preparations forming an emulsion on the addition of water. Wetting agents may also be incorporated. Pulverulent solid diluents such as kaolin may be mixed with the active ingredient to form dusting powders. The preparation may also take the form of a mist or aerosol by mixing the active ingredient with a non-volatile oil (e.g. a vegetable oil), a suplementary solvent such as acetone or cyclohexanone and a volatile propellant. Compositions containing 2 - benzylthiobenzthiazole, 2 - 41 - chlorobenzylthiobenzthiazole, and 2 - 41 - nitrobenzylthiobenzthiazole are described in the examples.
