Abstract
767,633. Automatic gain control. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 22, 1954 [Dec. 24, 1953], No. 37118/54. Class 40(5) An A.G.C. voltage-V is amplified by using it to vary the grid bias of an amplifier T provided with a constant A.C. drive on its cathode, derived from a transformer U. The output is rectified by a diode D1, smoothed by filter R, C and brought to a suitable level by means of a fixed negative source S and potentiometer R1, 2, the amplified A.G.C. voltage being taken off at P. A diode D2 prevents the voltage becoming positive. The resistor R1 may be omitted (Fig. 2, not shown). A delay may be obtained by connecting in the cathode circuit of the diode D2 either a fixed negative bias (Fig. 3, not shown) or a source of constant A.C. potential (Fig. 4, not shown). The control voltage so amplified and delayed may be applied to the input stage of a radio receiver, while the unamplified voltage is applied to subsequent stages.
