Abstract

767,622. Clamp fastenings. SHIELDS, H. F. H. Nov. 8, 1955 [Sept. 20, 1954], No. 27207/54. Class 44. [Also in Groups X and XXX] A releasable rope clip for attaching a load hook to a ropeway, but which may also be used for assembling scaffolding, consists of relatively rotatable inner and outer members 11, 13 with which the load hook 22 is so associated that when the hook is loaded a slot 14 in the outer member 13 covers a recess in the inner member 11 in which the cable is located, and when the hook is raised uncovers the recess to allow the clip to be removed from the cable. The hook is carried forwardly of the clip on one end of an arm 19 secured to a shaft 15 which is journalled in the inner cylindrical member 11. The other end of arm 19 extends rearwardly from shaft 15 and carries a pin 20 engaging a slot 21 in the outer sleeve member 13 for rotating the sleeve to cover or uncover the recess in member 11 as the hook is raised or lowered. The weight of the article on the hook tends to tilt the clip and cause it to grip the cable. The grip is increased, however, by forming the inner end of shaft 15 with a cam face 23 which, when the hook is loaded, projects into the recess and bites the cable. A ramp (not shown) is adapted to engage a roller 24 on the hook to raise it where it is desired to remove the clip. A steadying roller 25 is provided on the. rear end of arm 19.
